Aweber features and details:
Usability
Aweber's interface is slightly complicated as per the user's complaints. The design could be more intuitive and elegant. However, Aweber provides great help material which includes video tutorials, a knowledge base and webinars. They have their live team of in-house customer solutions specialists. They offer an award-winning 24/7 US-based customer support
Aweber allows you to build your own custom landing pages and provide a more targeted visitor experience. Drag & Drop Landing Page Designer allows you to Create custom emails and landing pages in just minutes without ever writing a line of code. Aweber has inbuilt landing pages to choose from, which saves your time.
Whether you're trying to grow your list, show off your latest eBook, or promote an event, you can easily build a dedicated landing page to help you out. Provide a more streamlined and positive user experience by adding follow-up pages. Launch your completed landing with the simple click of a button! Amplify your message by adding the URL in your emails, advertisements, social posts, and more. Keep things consistent by replacing the default landing page domain with your own domain name.
Newsletter
If you have a regular blog, you will love how Aweber creates auto email newsletters of your blog content. An Auto newsletter automates your email content creation by broadcasting the latest posts from your blogs. Aweber's blog broadcast pulls content from a blog through an RSS feed and reformats it into an email newsletter template to share with subscribers. With its mobile app- Curate you can quickly create and send amazing- looking newsletters from your mobile device using content from your blog and website
Subscriber list
Aweber lets you manually add up to 10 contacts-subscribers-via a form. Each record collects the name of the person, email address, ad-tracking value, and the name of the initial email message the person will receive. This can turn into a long and tedious exercise for a long list of names. The import tool is a better choice, as it has a textbox to cut and paste an entire comma-delimited list of email addresses. You can also upload a spreadsheet (XLS and XLSX), text file (CSV, TSV, and TXT). Unlike Campaigner, MailChimp, and GetResponse (15.00 Per Month and Up at GetResponse) , AWeber doesn't have Gmail or third-party integration for pulling contacts, which is disappointing. You can, however, export the Gmail contacts to a CSV file and use the import tool.
Reporting
About an hour after I sent my message, I received a Quick Stats email from AWeber, informing me of the number of sends and opens on my recently delivered message.
As for reporting options, AWeber presents the standard raw numbers and percentages (clicks, opens, unsubscribes, and the like). It also includes more advanced data, such as opens, clicks, revenue over time, and subscriber growth.
Additionally, you can see stats by location, area code, or designated market area. You're also able to compare results across your past 20 emails. You can track subscribers based on their signup method, and the list segmentation options provide plenty of ways to optimize your email marketing. Reports are well laid out and easy to understand; much of the data is presented in both chart and table format.
Security
AWeber is transparent about its uptime data, which is a nice touch. When I checked the last reporting period, it maintained over 99% uptime. As far as its internal security, AWeber owns and operates the dedicated hardware resources, including a RAID-enabled database and multiple mail services
Online Forms
Through Aweber's sign up form generator, you can create simple yet powerful sign up or opt-in forms. You can customize your design to match your brand, add custom fields to learn more about your subscribers and even use forms to tag and segment subscribers to deliver targeted automated email campaigns. Watch subscribers gravitate towards your mobile-friendly sign up forms.
Grow your email list with ease With hundreds of HTML ready-to-use templates, it's easy to create professional sign up forms for your business in minutes.
Use flexible display options
Create dynamic opt-in forms that look good on any device. Choose to embed your forms on your website, in-line within a blog post, or build pop up, pop-over and lightbox forms that slide or fade in on a time delay.
Attract subscribers on Facebook or Wordpress
Attract new subscribers directly on Facebook and Wordpress with our easy form integrations. Add a form to your Facebook page, link a form to your Facebook subscribe button or place your form on your Wordpress site or blog within minutes.
Autorepsonders
Aweber offers a powerful autoresponder option for email management. Within Aweber, you can manage different lists for different uses. For example, you can manage different lists for people interested in different products that you offer. You can also create and schedule emails on specific days and time. And you can also track your emails, whether the receiver has opened your emails and at what time. A feature called Legacy Followup Messages enables you to send a series of messages to all new subscribers. Another feature called Campaigns (currently in beta) offers several ways to send auto-responders: by day and time, and also based on subscriber behavior or if you tag contacts in your database. You can also pause and stop auto-responders at any time. Campaign tracking lets you see how far your subscribers are in your follow up series of emails/campaigns and which caused the most unsubscribes, so you can tweak them as needed.
Email Personalization
Personalization is one of the best ways to get your subscribers' attention. Content that is more relevant to subscribers translates into increased engagement. Studies have shown that emails with personalized subject lines are 26% more likely to be opened and receive a 50% higher click through rate.
AWeber provides a wide range of personalization options, including the subscriber's personal information, location, dates, and custom fields data that you can insert in the email subject line and body copy. It's super easy to add personalization. Simply click the personalization button in the email subject line of body text, and select what you'd like to personalize from the dropdown menu. Dynamic content - the next level of personalization
Dynamic email content is text or images within your message that change based on the data or information you have about a subscriber.
Personalizing your emails in this way can significantly increase engagement and save time. In fact, 81% of content marketers believe that interactive content grabs attention more effectively than static content. It eliminates the need to write separate emails for different audiences. Instead, you create one email and put in content that varies by the audience segment.
Third-Party Integration
Connect your Aweber account to social media, landing pages, shopping carts and many more integrations to get the most out of your email marketing campaign. However, it can't import contacts from gmail or other third-party address books, nor does it offer a direct integration with google analytics. You can, however, export the Gmail contacts to a CSV file and use the import tool. Aweber offes a Integrated Sign-Up Forms through which you can grow your lists of people faster that can easily be placed anywhere.
Real time reporting
Analyze the results of your emails and campaigns using a library of pre-built reports and analytics. The reports contain key performance indicators (KPIs) that anyone can interpret and understand- no statistics degree is required. Aweber allows you to access and analyze your reports on mobile as well with an app named - aweber stats. AWeber collects information on your lists and stores them under the "Reports" tab in your control panel. The information provided can be helpful in optimizing your email marketing. The Ddashboard will be the section in your reports that allows you to view the reports that are important to you. You can add multiple reports to your Dashboard, and remove them from the Dashboard when they are no longer important to you. This feature is not accessible on the Aweber Free plan. Keeping track of your list and the subscribers on it is an important part of managing your lists. The "Reports" page in your Aweber account is a great place to see all sorts of statistics on your list's performance, from subscription numbers to click through rates.
Pre-built analytics
Aweber introduces email web analytics tools to help you better understand your customers' and prospects' behavior. Many of the features of email web analytics require no additional installation. Just send your messages and you will see a wealth of information show up in the report section of your account in just a few hours. Individual subscriber activity reports will be available under the "Subscribers" tab, and powerful list segmentation features will be there for you to send messaged based on susbscriber actions. Through Awebers email web analytics you can:
Use your own domain for click tracking URLs instead of clicks.aweber.com
Track page views a subscriber makes on other pages of your site beyond just your click thru link
Track sales revenue tied to your subscribers
Segment and send emails to subscribers based on sales revenue or other page hits
With the addition of the analytics JavaScript to your website, you'll be able to:
See where subscribers are going after the click
See where on your site they're going later - even if they're not using a link in your emails to get there!
Track when they make a purchase, what they purchase, and how much revenue that purchase is worth
While AWeber does track the link clicks with their standard reporting and analytics, it may be helpful for you to use the integration if you want certain analytics data to be centralized within Google Analytics.
Split testing
Aweber's integrated split testing enables you to test different subject lines and messages to see what delivers the best result for your business
Aweber's split testing allows you to:
Send the best email- Put up to three emails to the test with AWeber. Test subject lines, preview text, message content, and even send times to see which email yields the best results.
Be more flexible- AWeber lets you test completely different emails and choose your segments and segment percentages.
Optimize every broadcast- Run a split test against 40% of your subscribers, and deliver the winning variation to the remaining 60%. Discover what works and see the results immediately.
Test morning, noon, or night- Not sure when to send? Test sending your emails at different times throughout the day to see what gets the most engagement. Need help? Our 24/7 customer solutions team is always on - just like your email strategy.
Email Deliverability
Aweber's claims an industry-leading Deliverability. They are experts in making sure your message hits people's mailbox. They don't outsource email processing ensuring they themselves control deliverability from end-to-end. Send emails with Aweber and trust that you have a team of experts and the technology working for you 24/7 to ensure your emails are optimized for success. AWeber has made deliverability a core function of their product. The in-house reputation management system runs 24/7 and monitors dozens of email signals to determine who's doing what. This data allows the deliverability team to detect attempted email abuse in real-time, and remove any accounts with low quality or suspicious sending. The deliverability team is staffed with experts who protect the deliverability of customers. They also work closely with customers, educating them on industry best practices that will improve their email marketing strategies.
List Management
Through list management you will differentiate messages and subscribers from others in your Aweber account. You would use lists to manage the content in your account, and see what specific subscribers have signed up to receive. This can be thought of as a team, distribution or mailing list, or collection of subscribers. Whenever you set up a different autoresponder, or follow up series you would set that up in a different list. You can have several campaigns within the same list, but the content that your subscribers signed up to receive would still be the same. When someone signs up to your list, they are signing up to receive a specific set content on a particular topic.
AWeber finds a healthy balance between ease of use and robust functionality. There are some nice features - particularly in the autoresponder realm. Navigation is intuitive enough that I was able to perform basic tasks without looking up tutorials. When I did find myself at a loss and turned to the online help resources, I was quite impressed with the range and scope of guidance available.

The Verdict
AWeber has a lot to offer small businesses who want to get a full email marketing campaign up and running. Additionally, the autoresponder series set up was among the most intuitive and simplest I've ever seen. The WYSIWYG editor has some nice features, and recent updates have improved the email design experience significantly. The analytics and reporting capabilities are a step above par, as is AWeber's number of integrations. What rounds out the 5-star rating is the 24/7 US-based customer service.
AWeber has all the basics you need for a small business, and does quite a good job at educating first-time users with its bevy of articles, videos and podcasts. The issue is that, apart from customer service, there isn't a particular area they excel in when it comes to features. And disappointingly, they haven't really updated a whole lot in the last few years since we first reviewed the tool.
This, of course, would not be a problem if it was priced for budget-conscious beginners, yet the costs are on par with other email tools like ActiveCampaign or GetResponse that offer much more for the same price. And these other tools not only offer more advanced features, but often a more visually appealing experience at that. One positive is that, no matter how many subscribers you have, each price tier gives customers full access to their features. But these features still might not be enough for the asking price.
